DIVISIOIN II WOMEN CONTINUE TO LEAD

Last weekend the Rockets Division II Women's team travelled to Oxford for a must win game. A win would ensure a playoff place and keep their dream of winning the league alive. Rockets started the game well, playing patient, effective offence giving our shooters Cat Lutz and Melissa England Espin the opportunity to take open shots which they duly converted.

Forward Becky Lear

In first half we were able to convert on the break and from offence but it was our inside play from Becky Lear and Alex Stollery that gave us a commanding lead at the end of the half. We fully expected Oxford to come out strong in the third quarter and they showed us a few glimpses of their potential with Angelique Brown being aggressive inside and on the boards and Alice Walton trying to get her game going on the outside. However the Rockets played an aggressive zone which limited their scoring opportunities and they continued to convert on the offensive end with Becky Lear scoring at will.

Becky Lear ended the game with 27points, Cat Lutz with 14 points, and Melissa England Espin added 13 points.  It was a great team performance that allowed a 30 point win over one of the top 3 teams.

The women have three more games coming up in the regular season, Bromsgrove, Birmingham and Cardiff City, and the Rockets are focused and ready to work hard for those final wins that will propel them into the playoffs with a perfect 14-0 record.
